Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy
is the use of essential oils and other aromatic
plant compounds to improve the state of a person's
health or mood. Aromatherapy encourages the use of
complementary natural ingredients.
The theory behind aromatherapy is that inhalation of
essential oils stimulates the smell center of the
brain and causes a signal to be sent to the limbic
system which controls emotions and retrieves
memories that release chemicals in the brain to
relax, calm or stimulate the person.
Inhalation of
essential oils offers both physical and
psychological relaxation, and in some cases can
relieve congestion. Essential oils applied directly
to the skin are absorbed into the bloodstream to
enhance health. Aromatherapy treatments are
effective in dealing with minor ailments, skin
problems and in particular stress or emotional
difficulties.
Treatments
are most often by way of massage which affects the
circulation of the blood, the muscles, the nervous
system and organs of the body. In addition it is a
most effective treatment for symptoms arising
directly from stress related issues.
